EarthSkin: The Ground as Human Skin

The project EarthSkin: The Ground as Human Skin, carried out in 2025 in collaboration with the Striegl City Gallery in Sisak, was realized as part of the second phase of the European VOICE initiative for climate justice. Through a series of participatory workshops and public events, the project connected art, science, and the local community in exploring soil as a living, sensitive layer analogous to human skin.

Starting from the concept of soil as a regenerative and sensitive system, EarthSkin encouraged the citizens of Sisak to develop a deeper emotional and ecological connection to their local environment through soil sample analysis, the creation of artifacts, and the sharing of personal stories. The workshops employed basic soil analysis tools (measurement of pH levels, moisture, and nutrient content), as well as digital tools for data visualization.

EarthSkin supported several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). Through collaboration with local artists, ecologists, educators, and cultural institutions, the project demonstrated how art can serve as a catalyst for climate resilience, collective learning, and lasting changes in our relationship with nature.

By leaving behind a network of new connections and shared knowledge, EarthSkin demonstrated how soil, often overlooked, can become a powerful symbol of regeneration, care, and community.
